What is energy healing?
A holistic wellness approach whose benefits might surprise you
Energy healing is a holistic approach to wellness that works with the body’s inherent energy system, an unseen field that surrounds and permeates our bodies. Some people call it an aura, while researchers refer to it as the biofield. Perhaps you’ve heard of chakras and meridians, which are aspects of our body’s energy system that relate to this field.
It may sound a bit woo-woo but think about it this way: Have you ever come out of an intense meeting or conversation and thought, “I’m so drained.” Or, on the flip side, how do you feel after a walk in the woods or lunch with a good friend — refreshed, ready for anything? Those responses reflect your energy. An energy healing session is simply a more intentional way to create rejuvenation.
A colleague of mine compares our energy system to a flowing river. Over time, this river may become blocked or stagnant due to ordinary or extreme stresses of life. Energy healing techniques clear away congestion, so the system flows freely. Clear and balanced flow of energy supports physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. It encourages deep relaxation that usually feels great!
I earned certification through the Healing Touch Program, which was created in the 1980s by a nurse in Colorado, but the concepts it’s based on are common to traditional and indigenous healing around the globe. Healing Touch is offered in hospitals around the country including several in Cincinnati, where I live. I’ve been practicing Healing Touch since 2019.
Healing Touch uses light or near-body hand placements while you lie fully clothed on a table or sit in a chair, to help you connect with yourself as a resource for clarity and calm when
A loss, a diagnosis, or other transition alters your life and maybe your sense of self too. Remember, even happy events can be taxing (i.e. new baby, new job, moving). Restoring balance supports you in moving through life changes.
You’re a caregiver or parent, a helping professional or volunteer, a leader, or an activist, and the work makes you exhausted and perhaps anxious at times. Caring for yourself is essential to sustain your service to others.
You’re in cancer treatment or have had surgery or are injured. Clearing and balancing your energy complements medical care.
I offer individual sessions in-person in Cincinnati or remotely via Zoom. I also lead workshops featuring energy practices to address specific challenges like preparing to downsize or coping with stress.
